WHO INVENTED THE MARGARITA?
The most famous story is that it was invented in 1935 by a local chap named Carlos “Danny” Herrera, just south of Tijuana. One of his customers was Zeigfield showgirl Majorie King – who was apparently allergic to all hard liquor apart from tequila, but didn’t like to drink it straight.
In actuality the margarita was likely not invented by a Mexican, though it may have been created IN Mexico. This is mainly based on the fact that Mexicans aren’t historically big cocktail mixers, and the margarita is still rarely drunk in the country even today. It’s a ‘tourist thing’. Whatever, we liked the other story better.
